Feeds are short for RSS feeds, which stands for Really Simple Syndication. Not all sites have feeds, mostly news, sports, and blogs have them. My however does so that students and parents can stay on top of important events in class, such as tests, quizzes, grades, etc.
How can I tell if there is a feed?
If you use internet explorer it is very easy. Look at near the top right of your browser window and there should be the following icon: if there is a feed. Simply click on it and it will take you to the original messages. Click on the small arrow to see ALL the feeds for a site. [mine has multiple].If the icon looks like: if there is no feed available.
Why should I subscribe?
People visit my sites for a few reasons: class announcements, sports stuff, or photos. You do not actually have to visit my site, you could just check your feed and it would tell you if there is anything new. My feeds wont tell you everything, but most everything. I plan to do all my major announcements with an rss feed this year[2008].
How do I check?
In internet explorer click the star [favorites icon], when the side bar opens, there is a feed icon next to favorites, click it. It will list all your feeds. If you click the refresh icon on the righthand side, it will tell you if anything is new. Pretty sweet, huh?!
Other Feeds and other Icons
There are feeds with specialized icons, like: twitter: , delicious: , blogger: , feedburner: , and digg: .
